Steam stopped taking into account the reviews of users who did not buy the game

Valve has introduced several changes to the game rating system on Steam. Now it does not take into account the ratings of gamers who have access to the game for free.

The rating of the title will not be affected by the reviews of players who purchased it through a promo code, received it as a gift or used temporary free access to the project.

Valve said that the changes have already begun and will take several days. This also means that the rating of some games will change after the reviews are recalculated.

The company believes that the new system “better reflects the mood represented by customer investments.” Free games are exempt from changes, and all reviews will be counted in their rating.

Steam has been reforming the rating system since September last year, when Valve began to struggle with paid reviews and self-promotion of developers.
