Amazon Underground Tripled Rovio's Revenue from Amazon Appstore
With the help of the Amazon Underground store, Rovio has tripled revenue from versions of its own games for the Amazon ecosystem.
Studio Halfbrick, which also began to distribute projects through this store, doubled its revenue.
Through Amazon Underground studio Rovio distributes four games: Angry Birds Rio, Bad Piggies, Angry Birds Slingshot Stella and Angry Birds Space. Tero Raji, Senior Vice President of the Gaming Business Department at Rovio, commented on the experience of interacting with the service. “In the first month, our four games using the Amazon Underground model brought in revenue three times more than they earned before in the Amazon Appstore,” he says.
Recall that the American retailer launched the Amazon Underground Android store in August. The main feature of the store is a non-standard monetization model. All content, including IAP, is free for players. Amazon pays the developer $0.002 for every minute that the user spent in the app or game.
The retailer itself earns money from advertising.
