The Good Game Club podcast, created by Jude Ower, makes its debut at Davos with support from Tencent

An esteemed figure in the gaming sector, Jude Ower, has introduced a podcast called Good Game Club at the Davos forum, with backing from Tencent.

This podcast aims to explore the positive societal impact video games can have. It is co-hosted by Ower and industry analyst Mathias Gredal Norvig, both of whom collaborated on the 2024 publication, Gaming for Good.

In the inaugural episode, guest Bastian Bergmann appears, with future episodes set to feature notable personalities such as Game Academy's David Barrie, Ustwo's Maria Sayans, SpecialEffect's Dr. Mick Donegan, and FuturLub's Kirsty Rigden.

Ower emphasized, “Gaming represents a revolutionary platform in today’s culture and is a key art form for driving social impact." She continued, stating that launching the podcast at Davos is intended to convey this message to global leaders and initiate actions aligned with the Forum's theme, 'A Spirit of Dialogue.' Ower views gaming as essential for community building and addressing pressing societal issues.

Tencent, a prominent Chinese technology and entertainment company, supports the podcast due to a "shared belief in the global positive impact of healthy gameplay.”

Danny Marti, heading public affairs at Tencent, remarked, "With around three billion individuals worldwide participating in gaming, the platform unifies diverse cultures and communities, promoting vital life skills like collaboration, leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving." He added that, by elevating voices within and outside the gaming industry, the vast reach of video games can promote meaningful education, well-being, and a sense of belonging, creating valuable connections and experiences globally for players, families, and communities.

Ower, who founded Playmob in 2007 with the mission of leveraging video games to foster a better world, discussed this initiative with Gamesindustry.biz in 2018. PlanetPlay acquired the company in 2024.
