The Pokémon Company and Niantic have committed $1 million to support fire relief efforts in Los Angeles
The Pokémon Company International, along with Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, have committed $1 million to aid wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles.
They plan to contribute by each donating $500,000. The Pokémon Company’s $500,000 donation will go to GlobalGiving's California Wildfire Relief Fund, and Niantic will contribute an equal amount.
GlobalGiving, which has assisted organizations like the Pasadena Community Foundation and the Downtown Women's Center, will continue to provide grants to local groups post-wildfire.
Raquel Daniels, chief diversity officer at The Pokémon Company, expressed support for those affected by the Southern California wildfires, stating gratitude for the chance to aid Los Angeles area initiatives alongside Niantic and GlobalGiving.
Victoria Vrana, CEO of GlobalGiving, remarked that The Pokémon Company's donation has already facilitated emergency grants to local nonprofits active in relief work, emphasizing the importance of ongoing support for fire-stricken communities.
The Pokémon Company is among various video game entities contributing to LA's wildfire recovery. One notable example is Activision’s $1 million donation to the LAFD Foundation and Direct Relief, further augmented by raising an additional $1.6 million through its Call of Duty LA Fire Relief Pack.
Moreover, Sony contributed $5 million towards supporting first responders, community relief, rebuilding efforts, and assistance programs for those impacted.
