Nintendo has announced that the upcoming Switch 2 will support backward compatibility with previous games
Nintendo has confirmed that its upcoming console, which will succeed the Nintendo Switch, will support backwards compatibility. Additionally, Nintendo Online services will transition to this future console.
During its H1 2024 financial announcements, Nintendo disclosed that the next console will allow players to enjoy games from the current Switch collection.
There will also be a wide array of existing Switch games accessible on the new device.
Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, stated that more details regarding backwards compatibility will be shared later.
Furukawa emphasized the significance of utilizing the Nintendo Account framework, confirming that both it and the Nintendo Switch Online services will remain available on the forthcoming console.
According to Nintendo's financial report for the period ending September 30, there was a 34% decline in net sales, along with reduced sales in hardware and software. As such, the company has adjusted its full-year forecast downward.
