The German government, through its Minister of State for Culture and the Media, is encouraging game designers in Germany to present their creative concepts and seek financial assistance via the Press Start: Games Startup Grant fund.

This initiative, aimed at independent developers and recently launched studios, plans to assist "up to 130 game developers in Germany in establishing their own companies" this year.

As reported by Game Developer, those who are awarded funding can receive approximately €2,750 (close to $3,000) monthly for 18 months to focus on launching their studios and advancing game development.

Applicants who succeed in securing the grant must present an initial game idea or a project in early stages of production and will gain entry to a program offering educational and networking opportunities.

Claudia Roth, representing the Minister, stated, "The grant is intended to enhance the innovative and diverse game development sector, bolstering Germany's position as a hub for gaming."

She further noted, "This trial initiative ensures that funds allocated by the German Bundestag for cultural gaming grants will support visionaries across Germany."

Those interested in the program can apply until November 17, 2024.

Additionally, earlier this month, Steam announced it will cease selling games in Germany lacking an age rating.
