Why is Square Enix making a Triple Town clone?
The Japanese company Square Enix announced the trial launch of the game Farms & Castles. Its game mechanics repeats the mechanics of Triple Town from Spry Fox.

Farms & Castles is developing a casual division of Square Enix – studio Hapti.co . In the game you need to build castles, farms, plant trees and bushes. When three buildings or plants are joined in a row, they “evolve”, becoming larger and more complex. Everything is like in Triple Town, except for the bears. Farms & Castles doesn’t have them.

Triple Town was released at the end of 2011, almost four years ago. For a while it was popular, which gave rise to many clones. Spry Fox had to go to court. In January 2012, she filed a lawsuit against 6waves, accusing the company of the fact that the mobile game Yeti Town released by him is inclined with Triple Town.
As a result of the proceedings, Yeti Town was removed from the App Store.

Clones of successful games in mobile will not surprise anyone. But as a rule, freshly released projects are copied. It’s hard to say what made Square Enix tilt the title four years ago. Perhaps the results of the trial run of Farms & Castles will help solve this riddle.
In addition, we can’t help but wonder: if the clone is successful, will Spry Fox sue Square Enix? And how will the case end?
