Mobile studios have overtaken console developers in spending on TV advertising

Mobile developers have spent more on TV advertising this year than console studios. About this with reference to the research of the iSpot resource.tv reports the online publication Venturebeat.

Among game developers, King, Machine Zone, Supercell and uCool have spent the most on TV advertising since the beginning of the year. King is in the first place in spending, then, in descending order, Machine Zone, Supercell and uCool. This year they have already paid a total of $130 million. This is 30% of all the money spent on advertising games in 2015.

Console developers – PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox – are only in fourth, fifth and eighth places, respectively, in terms of the number of expenses for TV commercials.

Last year, console game development companies were at the top of this list. The drop is partly due to the fact that in 2014 both Sony and Microsoft promoted their next-generation consoles. Then they accounted for 36% of total advertising spending. Now it is only 10%.

Anyway, mobile gaming companies are spending more than ever on TV commercials. There is already quite convincing evidence of the effectiveness of TV advertising of mobile games (although there are still doubts about how profitable it is). This means that other large mobile companies will soon join the race.
