Plarium: what needs to be done to get the game written about in the media?
At the Pocket Gamer Connects conference currently taking place in London, Plarium spoke about how to work with the gaming press.
The company was represented by Oren Todoros, a mobile PR specialist at Plarium.
Oren Todoros
He began by saying that providing media support for the game is not an easy task.
Journalists receive a lot of letters every day asking them to consider this or that game. Moreover, even if he or she sees the letter, it is not at all necessary that a publication about the project will appear in the publication. However, the right request can contribute to the appearance of material about your project.
What makes it right?
To answer this question, Oren interviewed familiar journalists. Based on their comments, he compiled a list of recommendations.
First of all, you need to send a link to the video or at least screenshots of the project.
It is also very important for developers to understand their audience and choose those publications that are focused on their own potential users (the same applies to the choice of authors, for example, asking a journalist who writes only about iOS games to write about an Android game is not the best solution).
It also makes sense, according to Oren, to highlight non-standard points in the letter, which, according to the developer, will help to distinguish a specific product from a host of similar ones. It may be an unusual story behind the development, a unique trait, something else. Plarium, Oren said, usually does this, trying to explain why he took up the development of a specific title.
Reporting on a project that has been released for a long time is not the best way, journalists always want to know about the product before it appears in the public domain, so it is advisable to report on the project before the release, give it a play in advance.
It is also necessary to establish contacts with publications/journalists. Oren advises you to share their posts and publications. And, of course, it is worth doing this not only at the time of release, but always (but, of course, not all publications, but only those you like). Thus, you will increase the loyalty to yourself from the media.
Plus, it is necessary to do all of the above not a month before the release or post factum, but regularly.
Oren advises using Reddit and YouTube as good social platforms, and SocialBlade for monitoring the latter.

We would like to add that the media is often, first of all, interested in writing not about the releases themselves, but about interesting facts, events related to games, sales, contracts, development stories, and so on.
