German Royal Revolt 2 has reached the top in the Korean market
Karlsruhe company flaregames reported on the success of its tug-of-war game in South Korea. Royal Revolt 2 not only reached the Top 5 Overall in downloads, but also got into the box office Top 30.
What makes this event remarkable is the fact that the success of a Western project in the Asian market (whether it’s Japan, China or South Korea) is a rare event. Now, however, the situation is slowly changing. It is becoming easier to find Western projects in Asian tops, but it is too early to talk about their similarity with Western markets.

Royal Revolt 2 hit the charts, of course, not by chance. flaregames has carefully prepared for the release on the Korean market. First, she found a local publisher – Seoul Incross, which publishes mobile games under the brand TheAppsGames. Secondly, as part of cooperation with a new publisher, she went to Kakao and adapted the game for messenger services:
- added gifts;
- adjusted the balance based on local specifics;
- made possible “communication between developers and fans.”
The most interesting thing is that, as far as you can tell from the screenshots of the Korean version of the game, visually the developers have not changed anything. As a result, the project immediately started from high positions a week ago.
It is clear that now the game most likely also has a feature from Kakao. What will happen after its completion is unclear, but, as you know, no promotion will give good cash figures without working monetization. Therefore, it should not be excluded that the success of the German game in the Korean market is not short-term.
By the way, in an interview with VentureBeat, the authors of the game shared the following observation: there are more promotion channels in Asia than in the West. One of these channels is pre-registration, which we have already written about.
Recall that for pre-registration on the game page, the user receives valuable content after the release of the project. For example, an exceptional item or game currency. This gives a good push in installations right at the start.
