Releases of the day - Wednesday (02/18/2015)
Today we turned to paid projects and talked, even if not about the latest, but about very worthy games, nurtured by a love of classics more than twenty years ago.
Bean Dreams
We decided to write about the game of a small Australian team Kumobius in the wake of the success of King of Thieves. When comparing the two games, it becomes obvious how important it is sometimes to “break away from the origins”. Bean Dreams, which recently received an update, is an ode (or even requiem) to the classic platformers of the early 90s. References to Marios Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog are very clearly read in the project. But at the same time, you should not think that the game somehow copies them, rather, it passes through the prism of mobile gaming, but, the problem is, it does not finish the topic to the end. Still, the developers did not think of managing one tap and the player holds the smartphone the same way as 25 years ago.
Hero Emblems
Another project that, roughly speaking, we got “from dusty shelves”.
It is also paid and also plays on the love of classics. Only this time it’s not about platformer worship, but about the love of the Dragon Quest series. In fact, it is difficult to characterize the game unambiguously. Whether it’s a JRPG pretending to be match-3, or vice versa. And this is just the main problem of the game. Why buy a “three-in-a-row” nowadays (even if it’s a role-playing one) is impossible to understand. The situation is not saved by the graphics, stylistically located somewhere between the already mentioned Dragon Quest (more precisely, one of its later parts) and Battleheart. In fact, it’s worth paying attention to the game. Hero Emblems is a great lamp project with funny dialogues and a comical plot.
