Peter Molineux: Mobile games don't connect people

Mobile games should make people feel emotionally connected to each other, — Peter Molyneux is sure.

At the Pocket Gamer Connects London 2015 mobile game developers conference, the creator and ideologist of the game Fable and Black and White shared his honest opinion about what mobile games lack. So, he believes that there has not yet been a "breakthrough" in the mobile industry, something that would make games not just a pastime, but a real revelation.

"I haven't had this with mobile games yet, so I feel like I'm sharing something with other people. Yes, there are all sorts of features in Clash of Clans and the like, but I don't mean lobbies, I mean emotions."

The plots that touch a nerve are the secret ingredient that the creators of mobile games forget about in the pursuit of revenue," says Molineux.

He stated that "when monetization and the discovery of something new go hand in hand, the result often seems forced, fake, feels unnatural."

As an independent developer, Molineux considers it an advantage to be able to say what he thinks. He stressed that he was ready for a negative reaction to his words.

"I can say what I want. Although I'm obviously in trouble for that. I was threatened with death, — I now understand why at such events [at Pocket Gamer Connects London 2015, — approx. editorial offices] the police."

Such loud statements could not remain unanswered. On the Pocket Gamer resource, where Molineux's interview was published, Seppo Helava, co-founder of Self Aware Games and creator of Taxiball, Word Ace, Fleck and Big Fish Casino games, entered into a controversy with him.

He expressed confidence that in the games he developed, an "incredible size" emotional connection arises between users. If Molineux does not have such a problem, you do not need to project your experience on all the players," Helava said.
