A virtual reality helmet has appeared on sale
A virtual reality helmet has appeared on sale, which Samsung, together with Oculus Rift, introduced back in September. Gear VR Innovator Edition can be purchased from Samsung’s online store for $199.99. To use the helmet, you will need a Galaxy Note 4 phablet that plays the role of a display.
The Oculus Mobile SDK development kit became available for download in November. Thus, by the time the headset appeared on sale, the developers had created several games, applications and “Experiences” for it. They can be downloaded for free from the Oculus Share store, an electronic store that will be common to Gear VR and the virtual reality helmet from Oculus Rift.
Here is a list of available games and demos:
- Anshar Wars
- Bombsquad
- Darknet
- Dreadhalls
- Esper
- Herobound
- Ikarus
- Minotaur Rescue VR
- Proton Pulse
- Romans from Mars
- Viral
Applications include Oculus Cinema and Oculus 360 Photos – for viewing movies and photos, respectively. The Experiences category contains a demo version of the Titans of Space and Zarkana titles from Cirque du Soleil.
It is expected that paid games, apps and “experiences” will be available in the new year, along with the launch of Oculus Rift VR.
