The W3C Consortium has approved the HTML5 standard

The HTML5 specification set has reached the status of a recommendation, according to a decision made by the W3C Web Standardization Consortium.

Paul Cotton, Microsoft's representative at the consortium and co-chair of the HTML working group, unveiled the W3C recommendations for HTML5. From now on, this standard will serve as the cornerstone of the W3C Open Web Platform.

The Group noted that despite the decision, the standard would be further refined.

"For developers and the industry as a whole, the HTML5 standard is a set of specifications that can be relied upon over the years," the working group said. HTML5 is supported by a large number of devices, which reduces the cost of creating applications for users around the world."

Let's add that the decision is rather a statement of fact, since most browsers already support the standard.
