The game Twisty Hollow has been released

TH

Arkadium has launched the Twisty Hollow project, which we have already written about before, on iOS. At first glance, the game is no different from its own kind. However, our colleagues from GameBeat are confident that using the example of this title, you can see how the attitude of major publishers towards the release of casual games has changed.

Arkadium is a major publisher and developer who specializes mainly in casual games and therefore knows first—hand that the market is crowded and it is difficult to please the user. Even if a company releases a lot of projects, this does not guarantee success: they give a total shaft, but no more. In such conditions, you need to be able to stand out in some way, you need a project that will “shoot". Arkadium puts on creativity and rigorous selection.

"We are very picky. We do what all the other studios do — we "kill" some games before they even come out. We develop four to six projects, and then get rid of two to four of them. It's not easy, because you invest in them emotionally. But this is the right way in the face of such fierce competition," said Jessica Rovello, co—founder and president of Arkadium.

Twisty Hollow "survived" because its components — the design style, the plot, the game mechanics — stand out from the general casual background. The characters look like they are cut out of paper, and the user must match the “layers” on the wheel during the game. The tasks in the game are given by the crazy mayor of the city. In general, all the signs of an indie project, except that it was made by a quite respectable large company.

Perhaps the only way to stand out for casual projects is to copy the approach of "freelance artists".

"I think we managed to make a game with a truly original gameplay. This is not a three-in-a-row or a puzzle, but something in between these two genres."
