Before Japan, you should try Taiwan
Taiwan is an excellent region for a “soft” launch if the company plans to publish its game in Japan.
This is the conclusion reached by Metaps. According to its representatives, the mobile games market in Taiwan is very close to the market of the Land of the Rising Sun.
Both there and there in the box office top are dominated by games of the same genre (more precisely, 9 out of 10).
In Japan and Taiwan, the highest-grossing genre is role-playing games.
LINE’s positions are very strong on both markets. Of the Top 40 box office projects in Taiwan on Google Play, seven games were published by LINE.
And the market itself is interesting: despite the not very large population – 23 million people, the region ranks fifth in the world in terms of downloads from Goolge Play. In terms of the number of minutes spent on smartphones, the Taiwanese are the first in the world at all. On average, they spend 200 minutes a day one-on-one with the screen of a mobile device (the world average is 142 minutes).
