How to become the second Dong Nguyen
On the website Kanobu.ru A few days ago, a detailed description of the process of creating a tile inspired by the creation of Dong Nguyen appeared. In the article "Dirty Indie", a user under the nickname Habrabrobro reveals the "kitchen" of creating an indie game: from the concept to the monetization scheme and the way to implement the project.
The developer wanted to make it difficult (like Dong in Flappy Bird). And about airplanes (hello, Retry).
So he came up with the concept of two aircraft going into a peak at once, which must be kept in the air and not allowed to collide with each other.
"The plane is constantly rotating, we tap and hold a certain half of the display responsible for one of the planes, thereby setting its motor in motion and forcing it to move in a rotated direction with a lower rotation coefficient."
I wanted to be on trend, so I chose a "soft" design style: "rectangles with rounded corners, pastel colors, rounded surfaces."
I did everything, as far as we understood, together with my partner using Game maker: Studio. In the comments below the article, the developer reveals this moment like:
"Game maker uses only its own GML language, but firstly it is quite easy to learn, given also that Yoyo games (software developers) provide complete and very convenient documentation; and secondly it is very similar to JS."
He promoted through three channels: the Admob advertising network, which did not immediately give results, his blog on Kanobu and advertising in VK.
Has it produced any tangible result? Despite the good quality of the project, its maximum position two months after release is 258th place in the arcade subcategory. Virality is not yet visible.
This is such an independent development.
