Square Enix announced the “cloud” gaming company Shinra Technologies
Square Enix, which has already launched the Dive In stream application, announced the creation of a “cloud” gaming company during the Tokyo Game Show. The project is called Shinra Technologies.
The headquarters of the new Square Enix project is located in New York. The “cloud” company will be led by the former president of Square Enix Yoichi Wada (Yoichi Wada). The beta test of new technologies involved in the creation of Shinra Technologies, according to management, will begin in the first quarter of 2015.
If Shinra Technologies turns out to be what its creators promise – a service on which the game will be completely “calculated” (analogous to OnLive), then the role of gaming devices in the user’s life will be minimized. What difference does it make if you run the game on Xbox or iPad if the graphics are the same?
The company also stated that the games for the new company will be developed by studios from around the world, including such as Ubisoft.
Yves Guillemot, CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft, confirmed his participation in the project and stated that his company has always believed that video streaming services should take a significant place in the game industry of the future.
By the way, the name of the Square Enix project – Shinra Technologies – is borrowed from Final Fantasy VII, where there is a company under the exact same name.
