Release Thursday (issue 5)

Unlike last week, this time, despite Apple’s loud announcement, blockbusters are tight, but there is definitely something to play.

1

Dragon Quest I

Today we were scolded for the bad port of “Petka and Vasily Ivanovich”. It is more difficult to treat Dragon Quest I so unambiguously. On the one hand, the game is really convenient to play. You can stand in the subway and travel calmly, fight monsters and so on (this is not Baldure’s Gate on a smartphone, in which you will not hit the button the first time). Another thing is that the color palette of the 1986 game (even if redrawn in the mid-90s) burns out the retina. You can play, but it physically hurts.

The Sleeping Prince

An unexpected project in concept. The player must complete the levels by throwing, literally, a sleeping prince acting as a rag doll collecting bonuses. The controls are a bit like the one from Rag Doll Kung Fu. A little lazy, but very pleasant in terms of submission game.

Spider-Man Unlimited

Following DC, Marvel continues to bring high-quality mobile projects to the market (not without the help of Gameloft, of course). Spider-Man Unlimited is such a strong cross-mission runner with a combat system very similar to the one from the “Running Shadow” Game Insight. Only here everything is simpler. Also available: good cel-shading graphics, funny dialogues and, of course, Spider-Man himself.

Goblin Sword

We have already written about this platformer this week. And, you know, after meeting him, our impressions of him have not changed. A nice, cozy, “antique” game that would look great on any platform today.

Puzzle Guild

The project is based on a great concept: mix tug-of-war and match-3. It looks like this: in order to cast this or that fighter, the player must collect a certain amount of resources. They are collected by mixing pebbles “three-in-a-row”. While you are trying to collect the necessary number of resources, monsters attack the castle, and the game, which is simple in its essence, acquires excellent dynamics. And everything would be fine, but the implementation of the project leaves much to be desired: the control is “tight”, the graphics are clumsy, the sound is “noisy”.

Spymaster

A good Finnish strategy for those who are willing to spend thirty minutes just to figure out how to play it. Thank God, there is a wonderful tutorial that reveals all the subtleties of gameplay. But we are not sure about the success of the project: after all, the threshold for entering the project is very high. But the atmosphere of “Casablanca” is perfectly conveyed.

Chronology

If Goblin Sword plays on the reminiscences of the platformers of the early 90s, then Chronology is a direct reference to the “flat” platformers of the late noughties, which demonstrated, firstly, the relevance of the genre in the era of the victorious 3D, and secondly, the fact that on the basis of new technologies they are able to surprise no worse than twenty years ago.
