The infamous fame of the author of Flappy Bird continues to grow. The release of the new Swing Copters game provoked a conflict: the developers of the Bog Racer application accuse Dong Nguyen of plagiarism.

Recently it became known that the authors of the game Bog Racer, which appeared in the AppStore at the end of July, believe that Dong Nguyen completely copied the idea of Swing Copters from their project.

There are few external similarities between Swing Copters and Bog Racer, although the gameplay really looks similar. In both games, you need to touch the screen to make the character start moving. It is equally difficult to prevent a player from colliding with objects. This is where the similarity ends.

According to Phandroid, Bog Racer was removed from the Google Play Store along with Swing Copters clones immediately after the accusations against Dong Nguyen were made, which adds a lot of drama to the situation.

The creators of the deleted game swear to do everything possible to ensure that justice prevails and Swing Copters are removed. At the same time, they are aware that the chances of success are scanty, and therefore they ask for the help of everyone who has faced the same situation.

Dong Nguyen commented on the incident as follows: “The Swing Copters project has been in existence since February 2014. At that time it was called Kitty Jetpack. There is a screenshot of the game in the Rillong Stone magazine for March 2014. I am convinced that the fact that there are similar mechanics in two projects is a coincidence. If you evaluate them from a design point of view, you will realize that they have nothing in common.”

Follow the link to see the online version of the Rolling Stone article with an interview with Dong Nguyen. There are no screenshots there, since they were not duplicated in the electronic version, but the text does mention the future Kitty Jetpack project.

Dong Nguyen is a Vietnamese programmer, author of Flappy Bird, who at the peak of popularity earned up to $50,000 a day on the sale of advertising inventory. Dong says he hasn’t spent a cent on promotion. Market analysts are sure that he just found a loophole in the top working in the App Store at that time.
