Backflip Studios unveiled its match-3
We have already written more than once that today almost everything is done in the three-in-a-row genre. Backflip Studios, the authors of the DragonVale series, are no exception. At the moment, they are preparing for the world release of Spellfall, their version of what the perfect match-3 should be.
Judging by what we've seen, there should be a lot of role-playing in it.
So, the central gameplay is based on battles between the main character and monsters. The hero strikes by collecting three or more objects in a row on a field of 6 by 6 cells. As in "Looking for a Hero" from Alis Games, the monster attacks once every few turns. But the hero strikes in the event of the destruction of each row (even if, after the destruction of one row, another is automatically assembled).
But, it is clear that we paid attention to the project, which will be released only on August 14, of course, not because of the gameplay (fortunately, there are also enough combat "three-in-a-row" now). We liked two points, which we will focus on now.
Firstly, there are no boundaries as such between the playing field and the place of the hero's battles with monsters. The chips just hang against the background of a three-dimensional scene. Such is the formal refusal in favor of "immersion in the game." Yes, if the hero casts a powerful spell, or a monster attacks, the chips simply disappear. Of course, this is not a "super feature", but it significantly affects the perception of the project.
Secondly, the monetization of the project is largely "hung up" on the inventory of the main character, on the fact that he can always buy some new sword or clothes that improve his characteristics. It is also not an innovation, but there is a very good selection of "delicious" items, including in appearance (here, as in Dino Hunter, sometimes you just want to buy, because it is beautiful, the disadvantage is that it is not yet clear how you can brag about it using the internal tools of the game).
Something like that. So far, you can download the game only in a limited number of stores, for example, in Canadian.
What do you think about the project?
