20 million people play KakaoTalk games every month

On July 30, the KakaoTalk messenger gaming platform will turn two years old. During this period, she managed to reach the mark of 20 million monthly users.

The KakaoTalk gaming platform is called KakaoGame. It includes, among other things, a messenger game showcase and an SDK with which developers can integrate their application with a Korean messaging application.

Currently, 520 games from 230 developers are integrated with the platform. The total number of downloads of all projects is 520 million (this May it was 500 million). Their total MAU is 20 million (40% of the population of the whole of South Korea).

KakaoGame, with a not too impressive MAU, managed to earn $560 million in the first six months of this year. This is $60 million more compared to how much the platform received in the second half of 2013.

Recall that Kakao was not a pioneer in the field of creating messenger-based gaming platforms, as it largely relied on the experience of Facebook and Japanese grids like Mobage. But she was the first to propose a close link between traditional messengers and tools previously unique to desktop social networks, and also demonstrated how this bundle should look and work.
