Grand Cru boasted 1 million downloads
The Supernauts project of the Finnish company Grand Cru became famous long before its release. In the three and a half years that have passed since the studio was founded before the release of the first and only project, third-party companies have invested more than $ 16 million in it. But whether investments will return is a big question.
Grand Cru themselves call their project "the most ambitious iOS game of all time." There is nothing to be surprised about: with such money behind you and a huge development period by mobile standards.
Supernauts is a bold experiment, an attempt to make Minecraft from a third person with elements of a time manager and in the setting of fantastic retro comedies.
In our opinion, the project turned out to be somewhat overloaded. However, this did not prevent the game from gaining 1 million downloads in the first six days.
Is it a lot or a little?
It all depends on the point of view. The figure itself is very good, but, for example, Fast and Furious 6 in June last year collected 17 million in a month, "Despicable Me" in the first four weeks – 50 million.
Someone will say that comparing the game under the new IP with the mentioned hits is not entirely true. And that someone will be right. But, for example, a number of FDG projects managed to achieve several million downloads in the same week over the same period. The German company did not position such successes as big news.
Based on this, we conclude that while Supernauts, in fact, there is nothing to brag about. The announcement of overcoming the threshold of 1 million downloads is rather a desire to please investors with something, than a real reason for pride for such an ambitious project.
Having been included in the "Best New Games" in the App Store last week, the game was able to get into the Top 10 in downloads in only four regions.
The game shows good box office results only in its native Finland. And the project has not yet demonstrated a good level of retention anywhere.
Have you played Supernauts, what do you think about it?
