22% of employees in the gaming industry are women
Since 2009, the percentage of women working in the gaming industry has doubled, the IGDA (International Association of Game Developers) reports in its latest study.
Curiously, of the remaining 78%— only 76% recognize themselves as men.
50% of developers earn less than $50,000 per year, 33% earn from $50,000 to $100,000, 19% earn more than $100,000 per year.
The average developer has been working in the industry for about 9 years, has worked on 16 projects and has changed about four employers over the past five years.
The main reason why the majority of respondents work in the industry is "to make a living doing what I like" (41%). 61% of the respondents said they would continue to play games. The main reason for leaving it is to improve the quality of life (39%).
