Razer unveils a gaming controller case for iPhone

While developers are thinking about how to make user-friendly mobile games, and players are getting used to touch sticks in mobile action games, hardware manufacturers continue to bring solutions to the market, partly solving UI problems.

Razer, known mostly for its beautiful and expensive sports mice, announced the imminent launch of its first smartphone controller on the market.

The new product is called Razer Junglecat. It is a case with a sliding gaming "keyboard". With a smartphone inserted into the gadget, the design begins to painfully resemble Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play, an Android slider, in which instead of a keyboard there was a gaming crosspiece, four buttons and a touch pad.

Razer Junglecat has no touch functionality, but it is available:

  • the crosspiece;
  • four action buttons (ABXY);
  • side buttons.

Razer Junglecat is designed for iPhone 5/iPhone 5S. It will go on sale in July. At the same time, the Junglecat app, a gaming showcase with games that support the controller, should appear in the App Store.

At launch, the controller will support more than 200 games (including Bastion).

The only question is, does the market need such devices designed for a hardcore audience? And is their support capable of increasing sales of mobile games?
