Russia accounts for 5% of global app downloads from the Windows Phone Store
Russia is ranked 8th in the world in downloads from the Windows Phone Store, according to official Microsoft data.
The most downloads are in the USA
Is it a lot or a little?
In September last year, Microsoft assured that the number of total downloads of applications and IAP (the company inexplicably counts them together) per day is 9 million. Five months later, with the most successful calculation, this figure is unlikely to be more than 15.6 million.
Look, in the first nine months of last year, total sales of Windows Phone totaled 21.8 million devices. From September to March, another 16 million were sold. We make up the proportion, we get 15.6 million. The estimate is very rough, but, as it seems to me, it is quite working.
So, 5% of 15.6 million – 780 thousand. These are both downloads and IAP.
For comparison, only the top five applications in the Russian App Store sell about 100 thousand installations per day. And this is without IAP.
A couple more numbers:
- Windows Phone is responsible for 3% of mobile Internet traffic in Russia (Android – 55%, iOS – 26%).
- In the world, Windows Phone is responsible for 1.93% of mobile Internet traffic (Android - 46.92%, iOS – 32.39%).
It is clear that mobile Internet traffic cannot be equated with downloads from the Windows Phone Store, but this parameter is an excellent indicator of the popularity of the OS itself, it shows how big the difference in system usage is.
P.S. Russia is in the Top 5 countries for downloads from the App Store and in the Top 3 for downloads from Google Play.
