The Anno series of economic simulators will appear on mobile platforms

1

It is believed that the best games for tablets, in theory, are turn-based strategies and meditative economic simulators. It's funny, but neither the first nor the second ones shine in the tops.

Will Anno: Build an Empire, announced yesterday by Ubisoft, have a chance to prove that, at least for economic simulators, all is not lost?

Unlikely. But about everything in order.

In the mobile game, developed jointly by Ubisoft and the independent studio Mi'pu'mi Games, the user will have an island at his disposal, on the territory of which he will be able to build a city. It is assumed that then the player will also be able to explore new territories, engage in trade and build new cities.

Our colleagues from Toucharcade.com They assure that Anno: Build an Empire is not the first game released under the Anno label on mobile platforms. There was also Dawn of Discovery – Harbor, a spinoff of Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery, which was once released for the Nintendo DS, which, in turn, was a project "based on" the original series of projects for the PC.

So, in theory, Anno: Build an Empire is the first completely original title in the Anno series for iOS. However, the readers of the blog Pockettactics.com we compared the screenshots of the mobile project and the browser-based Anno Online and came to the conclusion that the novelty is a port of the latter. This statement is supported by the fact that Anno: Build an Empire will require a permanent network connection.

In other words, Ubisoft decided not to reinvent the wheel, but simply to transfer the working model to a new platform. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? We do not undertake to judge, just note that this means the following: apparently, we will not talk about a full-fledged original economic simulator for mobile platforms soon. The age of time managers continues.

By the way, Mi'pu'mi Games is a strange choice for Ubisoft. The team's portfolio includes porting the classic Hitman trilogy to the previous generation console, creating models for the Wizard Of Oz builder and developing a casual role-playing game for iOS Cute Kingdom.
