Philips is going to sell Android-based TVs

While everyone is waiting for a new revolution from Apple, Google together with Philips are going to release TVs based on Android 4.4 this summer.

The first TVs on this OS (we are talking about the 8100, 8200 and 8800 series) will be able to boast a screen diagonal of 48 and 55 inches and processors with 4 and 6 cores. But the main thing, of course, is not this.

When connected to the Internet, they will get direct access to the Google Play app store.

Most likely, at first it will be possible to buy and download only movies, music and a limited number of programs to the device. However, it is already clear that the developers of those applications that can be found on Google Play today, in case of changing the interface of their programs and games to a new format, will have access to the user’s “living room”.

This, with the rapid growth of the Android-based TV market, will kill the microconsole market that was never really born in one fell swoop, and will also make serious competition in Western markets for game consoles engaged in the promotion of entertainment content.
