In 2013, almost twice as many Android tablets were sold as on iOS

The iPad no longer dominates the “tablet” market, Gartner announced yesterday. Android has captured this mobile device market as well.

According to the results of 2012, the market looked like this:

That is, Apple, having sold 61 million tablets, gained a market share of 52%.

According to the results of 2013, the situation looks different:

Android tablet manufacturers managed to sell 127% more tablets than a year earlier. So similar devices accounted for 61.9% of the tablet market.

The main driver of Android’s growth was the high sales of budget “tablets” with a small screen. We can say that Android owes its success to the segment that Apple traditionally bypasses.

Surprisingly, Microsoft also managed to increase its share – as much as 2.1%, selling 4 million devices.

In total, 195.4 million tablets were sold in 2013. This is more than Gartner itself predicted in October last year. Recall, then analysts claimed that no more than 184 million such devices would be sold by the end of 2013.
