10% of paid apps earn more than $1250 a day
After carefully reviewing the recent Garter report, which predicts that by 2018 only 0.01% of mobile apps will be successful, developers at the Kii platform shared insights on how to fall into that fraction of a percent.
Recently, Garter presented their vision of the future awaiting the mobile industry in a couple of years. According to analysts, the market situation is intensifying. In four years, less than 0.01% of all released apps can be deemed financially successful (it's worth noting that the German game publisher Wooga claims that currently, successful games in stores are less than 0.1%).
This issue is relevant for both free and paid programs. Only 10% of apps in the paid segment reach five hundred daily downloads with earnings of $1250 a day (however, it's questionable where Garter found as much as 10% of such apps - it seems to us, that this number of relatively "successful" apps is much smaller).
So, what should developers do, and what trends should they focus on if they want to earn more? Here's a list from Kii:
- The app should be free (surprise, right?)
- IAP, in-game ads, paid subscriptions, and a combination of all these aspects are what will generate revenue in the near future. Analytical services and A/B testing will assist in this.
- Paid games, if they exist at all, will only do so as blockbusters—very expensive, beautiful, and unusual projects.
- It's necessary to acquire users in Asia.
- Developers should prioritize user experience (today, social services and word of mouth are critically important).
