The concept of a ”second” screen is overrated
The ability to connect a smartphone or tablet to consoles is a dubious feature, according to Epic Vice President Mark Rein.
In an interview with the site thealistdaily.com he admitted that “we haven’t seen much sense in the second screen yet.” However, Mark did not rule out that the situation may change, but definitely not in the near future.
Mark RainRain believes that using mobile platforms in conjunction with consoles makes sense only when it’s not about games.
Flipping through the menu, choosing a movie, sharing something – it can be convenient using a smartphone, which in this case will act as a remote control.
But in games, using them is not so convenient. The player is forced to constantly put aside the gamepad, pick up the tablet, then put it aside to return to the controller.
That’s why Mark doesn’t see the point in such a bundle. At the same time, he believes that developers should try different schemes. Sooner or later, some team will be able to create an application that solves the problem.
