DeNA has taken on a big project

The other day, a Japanese publisher announced a three-dimensional AAA-class mobile game Magic & Cannon, reminiscent of the best console JRPG titles.

Judging by the first data, this is a single project built on the patterns of Chrono Blade and the first parts of Final Fantasy: there is a small group of adventurers, a huge world to explore and an epic story about his rescue, in which the main character plays a leading role.

It is difficult to say anything specific about the combat mechanics, except that it is step-by-step. For sure, there are a lot of classic Japanese projects in it, but visually it is closer to the role-playing series Might & Magic and Wizardy.

However, the game itself is the opposite of them in mood. Magic & Cannon is a fabulous story. Humanoid wolves, frogs, and cats act as heroes. Perhaps this is what a cartoon based on Kenneth Graham’s novella “The Wind in the Willows” would look like if it was shot by Miyazaki.

Considering all this, as well as high-end three-dimensional graphics, we wouldn’t be surprised if the game was announced for PS Vita. However, DeNA is going to release the project on the Japanese App Store and Google Play very soon.

Why is a big question. Perhaps a major publisher, such as DeNA, feels some kind of wind of change, perhaps they are just experimenting with genres and mechanics. In any case, it is already known that gacha will be in the project, as well as the opportunity to help friends (how exactly, it is not quite clear yet).

The role of Magic & Cannon developers is Media Vision studio, which has two parts of Chaos Rings, single JRPGs for iOS and Android, as well as a series of console Wild Arms.
