How many mobile gamers are there in the world?
A year ago, in an article by one of the employees of the Indian marketing company Communication Crafts, the following figure slipped through: 53% of smartphone users play on their device every day. We wondered how many people are there?
One of the sources of data about 53% was the company Prism Casino, which marked the beginning of 2012 with a luxurious infographic on the situation in the US gaming industry market.
A year and a half later, in May 2013, CouponCabin shared more detailed figures, according to which it turned out that 51% of American mobile device users had played a mobile game at least once. According to Portio Research, there were 216 million mobile app users at the end of 2012. We subtract 51% from them and get 110 million players.
This is a very good figure if we take into account the following CouponCabin data.
During the period from May 2012 to May 2013, 61% of adult gamers who downloaded the game at least once spent $1 to $10 on it (or any other game). From $11 to $20 invested 15%. Up to $50 – 9%. More than this amount was spent on mobile games – 11% of users.
If we assume that not only Americans like to play on mobile devices, then the number of potential gamers turns out to be several times more. In total, Portio Research counted 1.2 billion application users in the world. Half of them are 600 million. An astronomical sum.
By the way, by 2017, according to Portio Research, the number of mobile gamers may well grow to 2.2 billion, which is already a third of the current population of the Earth (but this, of course, only if we assume that 50% of people working with mobile applications also download and play).
