Windows Phone is popular in Latin America

Microsoft’s mobile platform was the second most common in Latin America, according to IDC.

According to the report of the analytical company, Windows Phone was in fourth place in the first quarter of 2013. But the 12% growth allowed it to overtake all competitors except Android.

However, in Mexico, Windows Phone has been the second most popular mobile OS for the second month in a row. It is also in second place in Peru and Colombia. Moreover, in the latter, it accounts for a solid 25.6% of the market.

In Chile, Brazil and Argentina, the Microsoft operating system is not so successful – it is in third place in popularity.

It would seem that this is the finest hour of the platform. But there are two things to remember here.

Firstly, in Latin America, as in Russia, Nokia is very much loved. This means that they are not buying a system, they are buying devices of a certain brand.

Secondly, the Latin American market itself is now very insignificant. To understand the orders: the mobile advertising market in the Asia-Pacific region at the end of 2012 amounted to $3.55 billion, in the USA – $3.52 billion, Western Europe – $1.5 billion, in Central Europe – $112 million, in the Middle East – $109 million and, attention, only $50 million in Latin America America.

In other words, whatever share Microsoft would take in this mobile market is a penny. And if other companies are really interested in it, Windows Phone will definitely not stay in high positions there.
