Kakao games earned $311 million in six months

During the year, the gaming platform of the social messenger Kakao gained 30 million users. Her income in just six months was $311 million.

The number of its subscribers at the moment is 300 million, and the number of downloads is 400 million. 

Recall that the platform is part of the popular Kakao Talk application in Korea. The latter recently celebrated the registration of 100 million users. 

The Kakao game component was launched a year ago, on July 30, 2012, with 10 titles from 7 companies. Now the Korean messenger supports 180 games from 99 studios.

Their total revenue for the first half of 2013 was $311 million, which is 194% more than in the second half of 2012, when Kakao games earned $105 million.

A year ago, the dream of any application on the Korean market was to gain 1 million downloads. Kakao has opened up new horizons for developers. In eight game projects released with the support of the platform, downloads have crossed the 10 million mark. Moreover, Anipang for Kakao and Dragon Flight for Kakao had more than 20 million downloads.

Most of the company’s games are developed by small or medium-sized companies.
