To get into the top 10 iPhone needs 72 thousand downloads

Distimo has published statistics on revenue and downloads of the most popular applications. Thanks to this data, it became clear exactly how many downloads are required to get into the tops of the App Store.

Getting the first places in the top app stores contributes to the growth of their visibility and virality. However, recently this has become an extremely difficult task in the iOS app market.

We have already talked about the reasons for this more than once or twice – this is the oversaturation of the market and the lack of new tools for its organization.

And if something can be done with the latter (and, perhaps, Apple is doing something), then the excess of applications (and at the same time the growing popularity of the platform) has led to the fact that in order to get into the tops today it is necessary to gain a huge number of downloads.

According to a May report by Distimo, the 10th position in the top free Apple App Store apps for iPhone in the United States requires an average of 72 thousand downloads per day.

The number of downloads of the application, which occupies the same position in the top of paid applications, amounted to 4 thousand per day.

To take the 50th position in the box office tops, the application must bring about $12 thousand per day for iPhone and $10 thousand for iPad (for comparison, Google Play application, which is in the top 50 brings from $6.6 thousand per day).

Distimo also found a pattern in the distribution of download statistics during the week. The number of downloads needed to get to the top on the weekend, as a rule, seriously exceeds the number needed during the working week. So, in order to get into the top 10 free apps, the number of downloads on Sunday should be 11% more than on Monday.

Out of curiosity: to get into the free top 25 of the Russian App Store requires more downloads than in the top 25 of Germany.

To get into the top 50 of the Amazon Appstore requires 9 times fewer downloads than to get into the similar top 50 of the App Store.
