EA closes mobile division in Montreal
Electronic Arts unexpectedly announced mass layoffs at EA Mobile Montreal, which was developing games for smartphones and tablets.
From 60 to 70 people and about 100 testers who worked with the company on a contract basis fell under the knife. The reduction took place under the banner of the company’s reorientation to new and mobile platforms.
In principle, an interesting approach is to close one of the eight “mobile” studios and talk about their plans to expand the same “mobile” direction. On the other hand, EA frankly admitted that the reduction of teams is aimed at increasing efficiency.
Electronic Arts is currently one of the most profitable and prolific publishers on the mobile market. Among her main hits on iOS: The Simpsons: Tapped Out, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, FIFA, Real Racing 3. EA also owns PopCap and Chillingo.
