Chillingo and Samsung will help independent developers

Chillingo, together with Samsung, has finally launched the 100% Indie project, designed not only to bring independent developers together, but also to help them with advice in promoting their own games.

In fact, 100% Indie is a portal where developers can present their projects and share experiences, communicate with each other, as well as with players and “new markets” on a special forum.

It is planned that the center of the site will be materials written by members of the community and selected by the editors of 100% Indie. Moreover, articles will appear not only on gaming topics, but also, for example, about movies and music. As the creators note, this is “for the inspiration of developers.”

The main feature of the portal is the opportunity to present your Chillingo project through 100% Indie. The company undertakes to check its quality, and then issue invitation codes from Samsung. After that, the application can get into the Samsung Apps app store, where it will be distributed according to the scheme – 100% to the game developer, 0% to the store holder.

But there is a small “but”. Such an initiative will be valid only for the first 6 months from the launch of the initiative, that is, from March 4. After that, 90% of the profit will be given to developers for another 6 months. For another 12 months Samsung plans to take 20%, and starting from March 2015 – 30%.

The nice thing is that in this way you can distribute even those games that a particular team has already released in other stores. However, it is important that she will have to work on promotion in Samsung Apps on her own.

Why do the Korean giant and Chillingo need 100% Indie?

As we recently wrote, Samsung has a conflict brewing with Google. The vendor has become too important for Android. This does not suit the search company, which is afraid of becoming dependent on Samsung. This, in turn, does not really suit the Koreans either, since their share of mobile advertising is small, there are no prerogatives over other vendors, moreover, their devices do not receive Android updates in the first place.

For these reasons, as well as a number of other reasons, Samsung is currently slowly and very carefully preparing “alternative ways”. One of them is the new Tizen platform. The second possible way is to promote your own Samsung Apps app store. Considering that the secret to the success of any store is content, 100% Indie is a great way to find it.

For Chillingo, the new initiative is also an excellent search tool, because, as can be understood from the 100% Indie press release, no one prevents the company from offering the services of publishing the project on the App Store and Google Play to the team they like.
