Windows Phone is more popular in Russia than iOS
In Russia, more Windows Phone devices were sold in the second half of 2012 than on iOS, IDC announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The share of mobile devices on the Microsoft platform in the fourth quarter was 7%. So the OS entered the top three of the domestic market on a par with Android and Bada, driving iOS to the fourth.
Those who believe in the cloudless future of Windows Phone should not be deluded.
Most likely, it’s not the popularity of the axis, but the loyalty of Russians to the dying Nokia. Even the closure of all official stores of the Finnish company did not prevent good sales of its devices. In addition, retailers have reduced the cost of gadgets on Windows Phone 7 to a minimum before the appearance on the shelves of devices on Windows Phone 8, thereby raising demand for them.
When comparing sales of WP and iOS devices, you also need to not forget the point about which we have already written more than once or twice. Official iPhone sales were relatively weak in Russia until recently due to the high mark-up of Rostest versions and a very long delay in the official Russian release. Both of these factors worked into the hands of “gray suppliers”, with the help of which our compatriots often purchased “apple” devices.
“Gray” data, as a rule, is not taken into account, hence the “victory” of Windows Phone.
