Draw Something marked 100 million downloads
Last year was so eventful that many managed to forget about the project, which last spring was promised the laurels of Angry Birds – Draw Something.
Recall that it was developed by the OMGPOP team. He has been topping the paid and free charts for a long time. Enjoyed success with both casual and hardcore audiences, perhaps for the reason that the mechanics are closer to real than digital games. Draw Something can be compared to a “Crocodile”: one player must guess what the opponent drew.
In the wake of the success of the project, the OMGPOP studio was bought by Zynga for $ 200 million. Almost immediately after that, the popularity of Draw Something went down sharply. This, apparently, was a serious blow to the company of Mark Pinkus. Its shares rapidly went down, followed by a series of high-profile layoffs.
Despite all these twists and turns, including the departure of the game’s authors from Zynga, Draw Something continues to function. Now the game is on the 218th place in the top paid applications of the American App Store. And the other day, the number of its total downloads across all platforms (iOS, Android, Facebook) exceeded 100 million. Recall that the game scored the first 50 million downloads in the first 50 days of its existence back in April 2012.
In honor of this event, Zynga shared an infographic, according to which, among other things, you can find out that Lady Gaga was drawn 11 million times with the help of the game.
