Rovio is preparing for an advertising expansion
Rovio has strengthened its advertising department with people from Apple, Millennial Media and InMobi. The plans are, at least, to conquer the world.
“At a time when many companies are enjoying millions of downloads, the audience of the Angry Birds media platform is hundreds of millions of committed users,” says Andrew Stalbow, executive vice president of Strategic Partnerships at Rovio, not without pathos. “For this reason, our company is becoming one of the most important digital advertising platforms for global brands.”
In this regard, Rovio has decided to strengthen its Brand Advertising Partnership advertising team so that it can directly do business with lifestyle brands. Moreover, the Finns talk about a new approach to advertising: “the model of simply placing it in online and mobile ownership is not a mandatory strategy for most advanced brands, and this model needs to be destroyed.”
Further, the head of the North American Brand Advertising Partnerships, Michelle Tobin, explicitly hints at the experience with the Star Wars and Rio brands: “The Rovio approach, focused primarily on its fans and its audience, provides a more integrated advertising experience that more closely coincides with the marketing objectives of the brands.”
So it is very possible that we will soon talk about the new Angry Birds, in which the angry birds will once again transform into the heroes of some popular franchise. However, Tobin, talking about cooperation with leading brands to the TechCrunch portal, talked a little about something else. According to him, we are talking not only about in-game advertising, but also about the use of game characters in advertising campaigns of monsters like McDonalds.
As for the new employees who will provide Rovio with millions of dollars of advertising revenue, these are Betsy Flounders Novak, who previously headed the sales department of Millennial Media, Matt Pfeffer from the same place, Todd Tran, former CEO of Apple in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), as well as Raphaelle Tripet, former head of strategic sales at Inmobi.
