Will Age of Wonders 3 appear on tablets?
Simultaneously with the unexpected announcement of Age of Wonders 3, the continuation of the cult series of turn-based fantasy strategies, it became known that the developers plan to create a portable version of it.
The third part, like its predecessors, is made by the Dutch Triumph Studios, also noted for the Overlord series. The development of Age of Wonders 3 has been underway since 2010 with financial support, according to our colleague Robert Purchese, of Epic Games.
The game will be released on PC this fall (it will be distributed through Steam and retail). Then the project will be transferred to Mac (maybe even PC and Mac versions will be released at the same time). After that, a drum roll is possible, the debut of fantasy strategy on tablets.
There are not so many details about Age of Wonders 3 itself yet. Judging by the first screenshots, the mechanics of the game have not changed much. As before, there are cities in which the user builds armies and troops; there is a hero, an extremely strong unit growing from level to level; the spell book has not gone anywhere; there are also global and strategic maps (at first we change the deployment of troops, captures mines with resources, at second we are fighting). The three-dimensional, but scary graphics are striking. The engine, apparently, got from the already elderly Overlord.
