Who is better monetized: Rage of Bahamut or Clash of Clans?

Kwalee conducted a study of 13 of the most successful iOS games and found out whose approach to monetization is better. Looking ahead: the conclusions were, to put it mildly, unexpected.

As you know, finding a free box office hit in the top of free apps is not very easy. Some box office stars may not even be included in the top 500 of such applications.

Based on this, a small British studio Kwalee conducted a study. For three months, she monitored the position of the 13 most successful franchises in terms of money in the top box office and free applications of the American App Store.

Then she calculated the difference based on the positions received (the position in the free chart minus the position in the cash chart). The greater the difference, the higher the ARPU of the project, which means the better it is monetized.

After all, here’s what’s important: a high position in the free chart is a big expense for acquiring users. The more you spend on advertising, the more downloads, the higher you are in the top. In turn, if your application is not in the free tops, and the grossing remains very high, this is evidence of a decent base of loyal users who regularly spend on the game.

In short, it turned out that Kingdoms of Camelot and Rage of Bahamut have the highest ARPU (in the free top it is generally somewhere in the 800 position). As for Clash of Clans, everything is not so smooth here yet, despite the crazy revenues of the game.
