Iron News (17.01.2013)
Briefly about the main “iron” events of today: in 2013, a rapid increase in the number of tablet phones is expected; Samsung is going to introduce a 6.3-inch Note; the characteristics of the BlackBerry 10 L-series have become known.
Tablet phones on the march
The number of tablet phone shipments will more than double in 2013, according to IHS iSuppli experts. The analytical company predicts the shipment of about 60.4 million such devices this year. This is 136% more than was delivered to the market of large smartphones in 2012. By tablet phones, iSuppli understands smartphones with a screen of 5 inches or more.
Analysts are confident that their number in the market will continue after 2013. Despite the fact that, to put it mildly, it is not always convenient to use them for their intended purpose, their form factor when playing, working with the Internet, reading texts, watching movies has more to itself than the form factor of standard 3.5-inch devices.
The Galaxy Note III is based on a 6.3-inch screen
In pursuit of the previous news: according to rumors, Samsung GALAXY Note III will be equipped with a giant 6.3-inch screen for smartphones (the second generation of devices is equipped with a “total” 5.5-inch screen). The gadget will work on a quad-core Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chip. If this is true, then the Samsung smartphone will be larger than the 6.1-inch giant from Huawei – the Ascend Mate tablet phone.
The news came from the pages of The Korea Times, which reported that if Apple still completely refuses to cooperate with the Korean company, Samsung will find someone to offer its processors to. At CES, apparently, the Koreans have already discussed this possibility with Huawei and ZTE.
The data on the BlackBerry 10 L-series smartphone became known
Yesterday, the specification of the flagship of the Canadian company RIM fell into the hands of Techradar. In terms of characteristics, the gadget surpasses the iPhone 5, but lags behind the Sony flagship announced at CES.
So, the BlackBerry 10 L-series has a 4.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of flash memory and an 1800 mAh battery. It has two cameras: a 2-megapixel front camera with the ability to shoot 720p video and an 8-megapixel rear camera that shoots video in a format up to 1080p. It also seems to support 4G and NFC.
By all accounts, it turns out to be quite a decent gadget. Another thing is whether RIM will be able to present it correctly, present it in such a way that someone wants to buy it. Another problem is the content. It is already clear that the first BlackBerry 10 users will not remain without it, but here’s how things will be with its quality, whether there will be popular applications from other mobile operating systems on the platform – the question is.
