Iron news 15.01.2013

Briefly about the main “iron” events of today: a new line of Apple tablets will appear this spring, Surface sales in the fourth quarter of last year, according to preliminary estimates, do not stand up to criticism.

Apple is changing the cycle

According to rumors, the Apple company plans to release new tablets every six months. According to Apple Insider with reference to the investment company Topeka Capital Markets, the new “tablets” from Tim Cook will be on sale in March, five months after the release of the iPad 4 and iPad mini.

All assembledThe iPad 5 will be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, it will work on the A6X.

As for the iPad mini 2, it will also be equipped with more high-performance components. Whether it will have a high-resolution screen is a question.

Topeka Capital’s information is not such a surprise. The iPad 4 was released just six months after the iPad 3. It is expected that Apple will not be limited to a one-time early release.

Surface sales have failed

Analysts are confident that sales of the Microsoft branded tablet in the fourth quarter were much lower than predicted.

In the summer, they still believed in SurfaceUSB analyst Brent Till lowered his forecast from 2 million devices sold to 1 million.

In his opinion, the low sales of the Surface are due to problems with distribution and the presence of a competitor of such a level as the iPad.

Rhoda Alexander from IHS iSuppli predicted quarterly sales of “tablets” in early December 2012 Microsoft within 1.3 million. At the same time, analysts of the Detwiler Fenton investment fund, calling the strategy of the Redmond company “disorderly”, said that Sutface would sell no more than 600 thousand boxes.

For comparison, according to forecasts, iPad sales in the fourth quarter of 2012 amounted to about 24 million. Even with a discount on the fact that Microsoft is still new to the market (although this is not entirely true), Surface sales cannot be called anything other than disappointing.
