Google has released a geolocation game
Google has released a mobile game Ingress (“Penetration”), tied to the real world.
Ingress is a sci–fi multiplayer geolocation mobile game for Android devices. The game was developed by Niantic Labs, a subsidiary of Google.
In it, the real location of the gamer corresponds to the virtual one. The player’s task is to collect game capsules, walking around the real city, and bring them to the portals (to get the next mission), which are, as a rule, certain historical places and attractions.
In the game, all users are divided into 2 teams: “Enlightened” (The Enlightened) or “Resistance” (The Resistance), which compete with each other for the possession of capsules.
According to John Hanke, who is leading the work on Ingress, the game has two goals – to get people moving and allow them to take a fresh look at the world around them. By the way, he also told All Things Digital that during the preliminary testing of the game, gamers from Russia showed great interest.
