Google has introduced three devices under the Nexus brand
Yesterday, the search giant presented three gadgets of the Nexus line at once. We talked about one of them yesterday, but not about the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 yet.
The weather in New York yesterday was so-so. As a result, Google had to cancel a planned event that was supposed to be at least as interesting as Apple’s presentation a week ago. But it didn’t work out. So Google introduced its new products to the audience by simply updating the Android website.
And, in fact, we are talking not about three, but about two devices. The third is the updated Nexus 7, which we already wrote about in detail yesterday. Who’s left?
Nexus 4
LG developed a smartphone for Google, but hardly anyone would have guessed it if not for the company’s logo on the back of the device: it turned out to be too beautiful. In other words, this time there was no sovdepovsky creative: no boring lines, sharp corners and deranged shapes. The designers drew inspiration from the Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4. So in the end, the device is a nice classic shaped blade with rounded corners, which has both the back and the screen covered with glass.
The diagonal of the screen, compared with its predecessor, which Samsung brought to the market this spring, has grown slightly: from 4.65 to 4.7 inches. Instead of the “tear out the eye” AMOLED HD matrix, high-end IPS is used. The screen resolution has changed insignificantly: instead of 1280 by 720 pixels, it has become 1280 by 728 pixels (the ppi of the display is a decent 320).
Inside the gadget is a quad–core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz. It is one of the fastest processors on the market. The amount of RAM is 2 GB excellent for a smartphone, the battery capacity is 2100 mAh.
About the latter, a small remark: at first many people laughed at the Galaxy Nexus, because the gadget was discharged, despite the relatively decent 1750 mAh, literally before our eyes. As a result, as in the case of some HTC “spring call”, leaving the house with a Nexus without a charger was fraught. Hopefully, 2100 mAh will be enough for the novelty for a full day.
On the other hand, thanks to wireless charging (yes, yes, like the latest Nokia, which will appear on the market very soon), there are no more problems with wires: you put the gadget on a stylish bar and wait for it to charge.
There were some disadvantages in the device. The internal storage capacity is ridiculous — 8 or 16 GB, depending on the model. Moreover, there is no slot for a memory card. It would seem that for the market of modern applications, sometimes occupying both one and two gigabytes (and we are not even talking about the size of movies), this is a significant minus. But it is quite possible to forget about this circumstance for one simple reason – the price of the unlocked gadget in the minimum configuration is only $ 299. If you want a version with 16 GB – pay another $50.
For comparison, the price of the unlocked and already obsolete iPhone 4S in the US is $ 549.
Nexus 10
The next gadget is a healthy 10–inch tablet that Samsung has developed for Google. Apparently, Asus is now very busy with the production of the Nexus 7, so they did not dare to involve it in something really big.
The design of the tablet is very original, in some ways visually reminiscent of the “tablets” from HP based on Palm OS that have not been mass-produced: these are rounded corners and also a slightly rounded back, making the Nexus 10 something like a big dish.
According to the filling, the device surpasses most similar solutions. And we are not talking here about the screen, whose resolution at a diagonal of 10.1 inches is 1000000 pixels. It is clear that this is slightly more than the iPad 3 and 4, but Amazon and Barnes & Noble showed comparable screens in terms of performance.
The gadget’s filling is much more interesting: a dual-core Cortex-A15 processor with a frequency of 1.7 GHz, ARM Mali T604 graphics working with shadows and particles at the level of modern consoles and 2 GB of RAM.
However, even here it is frustrating that it will not be possible to add additional megabytes to 16/32 GB of flash memory. As for wireless interfaces, there is only Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Glonass and NFC, it’s not worth waiting for 2G/3G yet. The battery capacity is 9000 mAh. And again, there is no slot for the card.
In the USA, the cost of a tablet in the minimum configuration will be a modest $ 399, for 32 GB – about $ 499.
And in conclusion, a few words about the Nexus 7, which we talked about yesterday. At a price of $249, the 32 GB version of the device will support 3G networks.
All the presented devices will work on the basis of the announced Android 4.2 OS.
Sales of each new product will start on November 13 . It is still unknown when the turn will reach Russia.
