By the end of 2013, Firefox OS will have 1% of the smartphone market
Analysts admit that the new mobile platform from Mozilla will be another challenge to the current giant of the mobile market – the Android company.
In their opinion, this will be possible due to two factors. The first is targeting the ultra–budget segment of the market (devices up to $100). The second is OS support by a number of relatively small players, including Alcatel, Telefonica, Sprint, Deutsche Telekom and ZTE.
During the growth of Firefox OS will face a number of difficulties. According to experts from Strategy Analytics, the platform is unlikely to go beyond its niche due to the low brand awareness, limited market presence (especially in the US market) and a very small number of developers.
Firefox OS, like Android, is an open platform. Moreover, its authors seem to have abandoned the creation of a native ecosystem in favor of HTML5. The first devices on the platform will appear in the first half of 2013.
