Apple is ready to license Motorola patents

According to the court decision, Motorola Mobility managed to prove patent infringement by Apple. And now the companies are negotiating licensing terms.

According to the Foss Patents resource, a German court found Apple guilty of violating Motorola Mobility’s patent rights related to data transmission and synchronization. But if the Apple company’s positions regarding Samsung are unshakable, then Apple intends to build partnerships with Google, which owns Motorola Mobility.

Apple is ready to license some Motorola patents according to the FRAND policy. According to this standard, industry-wide patents are usually licensed, and royalties can amount to more than 2.25%.

The terms of cooperation are still unknown. The parties have not yet come to an agreement on the amount of deductions from each Apple device sold in Germany. But Motorola also has the option to request compensation for previously sold devices. In addition, an extensive patent portfolio (25 thousand patents belong only to Motorola Mobility) will allow the company to always have trump cards in its hands.
