iOS is crowding Android in the American OS market

The Steve Jobs platform managed to reverse the aggressive growth of Android in the US market. According to Strategy Analytics, compared to the results for the second quarter of last year, Google lost more than 4% of the market.

However, this is not such a big loss for the search giant’s mobile system. Android is still the leader in the American smartphone market with a share of 56.3% in April-June. On the other hand, this platform has someone to be afraid of. The share of iOS compared to the results of the second quarter of 2011 not only did not fall, but also increased by a significant 10% – up to 33.2%. As for the Canadian BlackBerry OS, its presence in the American market of mobile platforms, as in the case of Google, has decreased: from 10.5% last year to 6.5% this year.

If in numbers, Android shipments fell from 15.3 million devices in the second quarter of 2011 to 13.4 million this year. As for the supply of iOS smartphones, they increased from 5.9 to 7.9 million. Shipments of BlackBerry-based devices in the second quarter of 2012 amounted to only 1.6 million.

Strategy Analytics explains such significant changes in the market, taking place against the background of a seasonal reduction in shipments, by the unstable economic situation on the world market. The company’s analysts also fear that Apple will continue to take interest from Android in the third and fourth quarters.
